I was delighted to be invited to a special dinner for Kak Teh and Awang Goneng hosted by lovely couple Putri Kama and Pak Abu at Royal Lake Club yesterday. The Chinese food was sumptuous while the company simply amazing and full of fun and merry. Apparently Putri Kama last met Kak Teh 30 years ago and wanted so much to have a great reunion ….. I guessed she met the KPI with flying color. As usual when bloggers get together you will expect plenty of noises, laughter and surprises.

I personally was jolted with few surprises, meeting “new blogging friends” whom actually I have known for many years like Tom and Tireless Mum. Of course it was great to meet Sakmongkol, Mamasita, The scent of a women, NanaDJ and hubby, Ishak and wife and many others in person. It was also a pleasant surprise to know that Radin Galoh was a friend of my wife from Sekolah Menengah Sains Cheras. I could see that both Kak Teh and Awang Goneng enjoyed the occasion so much moving from table to table sharing jokes and latest thoughts.

How could you end a beautiful night without a song or songs? Well the short karaoke session was an eye opener by itself. Now I knew that Putri Kama can sing like an artist while many other hidden talents were finally discovered. It was a night to remember and many thanks to Putri Kama and Pak Abu, our perfect host.

There will be a Tahlil tonight after Isyak prayers at Surau An Nai’mah next to our residence at Tiara Kelana Condo in SS 7 Kelana Jaya. It would mean a lot to us if you could attend.

My deepest condolence to the wife and family of Capt. Yusof Ahmad @ Ancient Mariner that passed away last night. He passed away at the age of 64 after serving the maritime industry more then three decades.

For the last few years he has been blogging under the name Ancient Mariner highlighting current issues without any fear or favor. He will be well remembered among the bloggers and maritime community.

I have lost a dear friend that shared many common interests, especially in our endeavor to uplift the maritime professionals through Malaysian Maritime Institute ( IKMAL ).

Semoga Allah kurniakan keredaan dan keampunanNya keatas arwah bersama mereka yang soleh dan beriman. Al Fatihah.

Arwah selamat dikebumikan di Linggi - kampung halamannya pada 19 Julai 2009.

Bloggers Get Together on 29 Nov 08

This is an Open Invitation to all bloggers and readers who are interested to join Bloggers Get Together on Saturday 29 November @ The Curve. It is a 2nd Meeting after the first successful gathering @ Asam Pedas in April 08.

In early April we had a 'small' gathering which was supposed to be a teh tarik session for Tokasid, Mat Salo, Shah and Ahmad Kerpomovic. Somehow it got bigger and presto, we had about 20 bloggers having 'makan-makan' and sembang-sembang at The Curve.

We miss one person during that April bash and we told him that one day we will make another teh tarik plus sembang-sembang plus gossips(?) plus meeting face-to-face for the first time whenever he comes down to Klang Valley.Many of us are eager to meet him for many felt like he is a big brother to them. Many knew they will be at ease with him and we were hoping another faraway blogger will be able to join us for he too is like a big brother to some of us.

Okay here it is:

INSYAALLAH, on the 29th November 2008(Saturday) Che'gu “Kata Tak Nak” will be in Klang Valley to full fill the request of Mat Salo, Kerp, Shah and Tokasid.

Raden will start her Chemo Therapy on Monday 28/7. Will be away to Jakarta today till Thursday but my prayer will always be with her. To Raden cyber friends keep up the good support and prayers.

As most of us have already knew, one of our dear fellow bloggers Raden Galoh has been admitted to General Hospital Kuala Lumpur since Monday due to the relapse of her breast cancer. From her own words the result of the test was not good at all and she is currently waiting for the insertion of chemoport before proceeding with chemo.

“Since Monday I was warded. The news had struck a bigger impact in me. The cancer is found to have spread to 4 areas: the flesh in between the ribs, the liver, the right jaw node and the left shoulder node. The doctor recommended that I undergo chemo again, this time a heavier dose is suggested.But on Tuesday they found out my veins have badly collapsed, maybe too stressed with the chemo attack done 2005. I need a chemoport inserted under my right chest skin to ease this chemo.I waited for the surgeon last nite. He came this morning but a date can't be fixed. He needs to see the chemoport and check the available date. Again, I need to wait”.

Today we were able to assemble the men forward party to visit Raden Galoh at the GHKL. The team comprised of non other then Kerp, Mat Salo, Shah Talkonly, Zabs, MuteAudio and Jaff Point. The meeting point was GHKL @ 12.30 hrs sharp. The parking at GHKL was rather hopeless with hardly any empty parking space for us. Most of us have to take two to three rounds the hospital before giving up and parked at Hindu Temple 1.5 km away.

But it was worth the time and walk when we saw the smiling face of Raden Galoh at Ward 2A Bed 19. She was still the pillar of strength and so happy to see us. Well there were lots of questions from all the busy body men and she maintained her radiance and shared with us first hands on her progress. We spent about an hour with her before bidding good bye.

It was good to be able to meet her and shared our concerned and prayer for her speedy recovery. It is also a reminder to us to be thankful for the good health blessed upon us.

Thanks to Ancient Mariner for inviting me to be his guest for BUM 2008 to meet fellow bloggers and observed the discourse on Civil Society. It was a relax, no protocols environment with line up of good experienced speakers with mixed participants stretching 4 generations age gaps, truly cyber where age doesn’t matter.

I managed to sit in for the first session but have to rush back for my daughter birthday party immediately after that. The line up for first session includes Rocky’s Bru, Dato Syed Ahmad Aidid, Dr Azmi Sharom, Dr Lim, Jacqueline and Zorro as Chairman. Some of the issues and pointers raised include:

1. Rocky shared his views and experienced in pushing for Bloggrs Association and freedom of alternative/ online media. The fear and need for self censorship.
2. Dato Syed Ahmad Aidid touched on the need for bloggers to focus on every aspects of civil society such as safety, security, environment, judiciary, governance etc. Blogging must be used as a means to generate civil society or civic society as he claimed. He did mention that he may not have to leave the bench if bloggers were as powerful as it is today. He is also considering heavily joining the blogging community soon.

3. Dr Azmi shared his experience on University student’s excitement in PRU12 results. They believed that their voices have finally been heard and counted. He also raised the trends among students that have avoided main stream media and depended mostly on online news. He did cautioned the legal fraternity not to be too excited with the superficial changes announced by the Government but instead to demand for absolute changes in the division of power between the executive and judiciary.

4. Dr Lim emphasized on the need to fight against institution or media that create fear and divisions among the races and society. He felt that the popularity of the blogging community must be used to demolish races political bias and propagate equality in society.

5. Jac shared about her MalaysiaVotes.com and Flaming Policy in blogging. The need for rules and regulations in blogging especially for online media like hers.

I truly enjoyed the discourse which further enhanced my belief that the blogging community if properly shaped and organized will be the power house of future governance, guardians of injustice, platform for universal network and news and catalyst for development of civil society. Meanwhile the blogging community must continued to use its new found popularity, energy and power in ensuring the BN and PR governed with the interest of Rakyat as a top priority. It must be used to fight injustice, corruptions, abuse of power and conservation of the environment to facilitate sustainable development.

For the bloggers we have no choice but to be responsible, credible and self regulate ourselves to remain as the key factor and power house for the Rakyat.

The 4th estate has failed us? Politically-appointed editors to blame?The role of the mainstream media (MSM) came under heavy scrutiny at the Bloggers' Universe Malaysia 2008 held for the second year in a row at the Lake View Club, Subang. Haris Ibrahim of People's Parliament says the 4th Estate has failed the people and called on Malaysians to reclaim the integrity of the profession. Citizen Nades defended journalists and blamed politically-appointed Editors and draconian Press laws for the failure of a big chunk of the MSM in serving the people. Zorro, Kee Tuan Chye, Jeyapelan Mahesan, and Desiderata, among others, spoke on the the issue.

Jeff Ooi took part in the conference via a pre-recorded video clip. Steven Gan could not make it but BUM 2008 had Nades and RPK. I spoke of what the National Alliance of Bloggers was up to the last one year and of my fear that the New Media, bloggers in particular, may one day entertain self-censorship as a compromise with advertisers and Government.The 2pm-midnight event attracted some 200 bloggers, activists, journalists and politicians. Desi and Zorro moderated the two sessions and they have both kindly agreed to plan for BUM 2009.Syabas to Desi and Gang for another excellent party!p.s. RTM, Bernama, the Star, Utusan, the (new!) Malay Mail and several other papers covered the event.
